Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, plus four (4) years of experience in a field related to public health/human services programming, public health/human services planning, or public health/human services program management.
  • Related experience may substitute for education up to a maximum substitution of four (4) years.
  • Graduation with a Master's degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for one (1) year of the required work experience.

Position Overview:
This position will help meet the program's mission of promoting and improving overall sexual health outcomes through education, community engagement, and youth development. Specifically, this position will:

  • Promote evidence-based curricula with a trauma-informed approach to sexual health education for middle school, high school, and college-aged youth
  • Support community & school outreach in Austin/Travis county including in-school and out-of-school resources for program implementation
  • Support contracts, budgets, MOU , and agreements with community & school partners for program expansion

Travel:

  • If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

APH Information:

Immunization Requirement:
Due to high-risk areas, Austin Public Health employees must comply with the department's immunization policy.

Additional Information:

  • When public health responds to an emergency you may be assigned activities that are outside your regular job description. This may involve responding at any time, including nights and weekends with possible deployment to locations other than the Austin Public Health.
  • This position is eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness ( PSF ) Program. This program is a federal program that is intended to encourage individuals to work in public service by forgiving the balance of their federal student loans. To qualify, the individual must have made 120 qualifying payments while employed by a qualifying employer.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with adolescents/youth in the area of positive youth development/teen health
  • Experience in direct implementation of an adolescent sexual health curriculum
  • Experience coordinating sub-grantee partnerships with in-school and out of school partners
  • Experience in contract management, budget management and MOU /inter-local agreement processes
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

Plans goals, objectives, for assigned programs. Develops policies and procedures. Evaluates programs to determine compliance with Federal, State, Local, and departmental regulations. Develops and conducts orientation and training sessions for program staff. Assists in budget preparation. Promotes assigned programs through relevant media. Investigates client or community complaints. Handles personnel issues. Performs other tasks as required.

  • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of the area of specialization.
  • Knowledge of current principles and practices of planning and program implementation.
  • Knowledge of organization and administration of public health and/or human service programs.
  • Knowledge of program monitoring and policy analysis.
  • Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing.
  • Skill in establishing effective and constructive working relationships.
