Title: Assistant Professor - Medical Surgical/ Pediatric Nursing

General Summary: The Assistant Professor of Medical Surgical/Pediatric Nursing is a creative, knowledgeable, and flexible individual who provides classroom, simulation laboratory, and/or clinical instruction in medical surgical/pediatric nursing for assigned courses in the nursing program. The faculty work with the program administrator and other faculty in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program and participate in college service as well as student advisement. The faculty is committed to inclusive excellence and continuous professional improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide classroom instruction for sessions that last up to three hours. This normally requires preparation of materials, standing, conducting lecture/discussion, for a group of up to 32 students, using a variety of instructional materials and technologies. Didactic instruction also includes exam preparation, proctoring, correcting, grading, and posting of exam grades.Provide laboratory instruction that includes didactic presentations, demonstrations, use of simulation technology, skill remediation, and evaluation of skill competence. Lab instruction may also include preparation of equipment and materials for labs as well as securing/putting away equipment after the conclusion of the lab.Provide clinical instruction for a group of up to 8 students in institutional or community settings one-two days per week. Clinical instruction involves selecting appropriate client assignments, supervising, and instructing students as they provide direct client care during the six-hour or twelve-hour clinical day. Pre and post conferences are conducted each day. Clinical instruction includes formative and summative evaluation of student progress during the clinical experience. The instructor is typically on their feet and walking for most of the clinical day.Post and conduct office hours in their office space as required by Article XII of the MCCC Agreement.Attend department, division, and college meetings.Participate in college service as required by Article XII of the MCCC Agreement.Meet with assigned advisees at least once per semester for the purpose of course and program advisement.Maintain currency in nursing and nursing education through participation in continuing education.Implement all nursing program policies as well as applicable college policies.Collaborate with adjunct faculty in planning, implementation, and evaluation of student experiences.Collaborate with agency personnel in planning and implementing student experiences.Orient and mentor new adjunct faculty to course and program requirements.Participate in the preparation of state approval and national accreditation documents and site visits to maintain approval and accreditation status.

Compliance with of Massachusetts Board of Regulations in Nursing 244 CMR 6.04(2)(b)Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license in good standingMaster's Degree in NursingMinimum of two years full-time experience in nursing, or its equivalent, within the last five years and evidence of clinical competence in the area(s) of clinical instructionMaintain competence appropriate to teaching responsibilities including, but not limited to a) orientation and mentoring to the nurse educator role; b) knowledge of M.G.L. c. 112, §§ 74 through 81C and 244 CMR; c) participation in professional development in nursing education such as certification, continuing educationCPR Certified

Salary Range: $75,232 is the starting salary for Column H under the MCCC 2025 Salary Grids for an Assistant Professor; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
