Position Title: Sr Environmental Health and Safety Engr (Saranac)

Description:
The Sr Environmental Health and Safety Engineer is a professional position responsible for the analysis, development and recommendations for various projects and responsible for managing the environmental, health, safety and training program. The Sr Environmental Health and Safety Engineer will be responsible for regulatory compliance, training, engineering design and operational consulting support. Duties include reporting to, direct contact with and coordination with regulators, consultants and others affected by or having responsibility for activity at the site. Supervise select hourly employees on a day-to-day basis.

Responsibilities:
Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations Track, review, and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, and provide guidance to management Prepare all required compliance reports for submittal to regulatory agencies Compile information and submit reports for continuous air, water, waste, dust and other reporting requirements as necessary Responsible for hazardous waste inspections, reporting, and shipping Prepare corporate reports including periodic environmental compliance reports and responses to corporate safety, environmental, and compliance audits Ensures all environmental, health and safety procedures and plans are current and being followed as designed Annually update required safety and training plans and programs Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning and execution Maintain environmental management systems to effectively manage tasks, track environmental, health and safety data, and update permits and plans as necessary Provides new hire safety training and is responsible for developing, updating, and maintaining training Maintain records in compliance with all regulations and training record retention Monitor site activities (8 to 12 hours per day - seven days per week during scheduled and unscheduled outage and shutdowns) Label and monitor hazardous materials/waste in compliance with environmental and safety regulations Coordinate annual and semi-annual CO2 fire systems and fire extinguisher services Maintain and update minimum personal protection equipment (PPE) standards for field activities Maintain specialized respiratory protection equipment Support internal and external EHS audits as needed. Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental sciences or physical sciences. (Typically, six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) Six years of related work experience in environmental and safety compliance Must have completed the OSHA 511 Basic Course in General Industry and the OSHA 501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety Health Standards for General Industry or will complete within one year of accepting the position Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work with others effectively in a diverse working environment Effective oral and written communication skills to transmit information accurately and understandably in group settings Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with government agencies, trade groups and other industries Computer skills including competency with spreadsheets, word processors, presentation tools and other various programs; or a demonstrated ability to learn such skills Project management skills: ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently Must have and maintain a valid driver's license Possession of professional registration or certification is a plus
