Salary: $125,000.00 - $130,000.00 /Annually. The final pay for this position will vary based on geographic location and candidate experience relative to what the company reasonably anticipates for this position.Job Purpose
Reporting to the Director of R&D, the R&D Scientist supports the development, synthesis, and formulation of polymer materials for dental and orthodontic applications. This role is hands-on and lab-focused, contributing to new material development and process improvements in collaboration with senior team members and cross-functional partners.
Essential Functions and Duties:
• Conduct synthesis, formulation, and testing of polymeric materials under the guidance of senior scientists.
• Assist in developing and optimizing polymer formulations to support product performance goals.
• Collaborate with engineers and scientists to ensure materials meet performance and processing requirements.
• Perform material characterization and prepare technical reports to summarize findings.
• Support lab-scale experiments and transfer of formulations for scale-up and commercialization.
• Maintain accurate lab documentation and follow good laboratory practices.
• Follow the company's product development process, including relevant documentation and testing protocols.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years of relevant experience in polymer research, formulation, or material development.
• 2+ years familiarity with polymer structure-property relationships and material testing techniques (e.g., DSC, TGA, FTIR, mechanical testing).
Preferred
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across teams.
• Must be able to work onsite in a laboratory setting.
• Ability to travel up to 10%, domestically or internationally, based on project needs.
• Prior experience in the medical device or regulated industry.
• Exposure to 3D printed polymers, additive manufacturing, or specialty materials.
• Familiarity with statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE).
• Proactive, hands-on approach to lab work and experimentation.
• Willingness to learn and grow with guidance from senior team members.
