JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide constant, unobstructed visual supervision of the assigned patient including accompanying patients for any clinical tests or procedures off the unit.
Provide communication and socialization to prevent mental confusion during hospitalization.
Providing mealtime assistance and companionship.
Provide special activities to keep patients mentally stimulated during their stay.
Maintain a compassionate and pleasant manner to assure patient dignity and safety.
Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
Treat the patient and family with respect.
Utilize the appropriate safety techniques and standard precautions.
Notify the nursing staff when there are any needs of the patient, unusual situations, or a change in the patient's condition.
Re-orient patient, intervene, and/or notify nursing staff as appropriate when attempts are made to get up without assistance, pull at medical tubing or devices, attempts to injure self, or attempts to leave unit or designated area of care.
Demonstrate effective communication skills to facilitate the flow of information to the patient care team.
Maintain personal growth and development through mandatory in-services, meetings, and other educational opportunities.
Assist nursing staff with ambulation, positioning, transferring, and lifting of patient.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of hospital Patient Care Safety Assistant orientation and SECURE training (Crisis Intervention and De-escalation training) required before initial patient assignment.
