POSITION SUMMARY
The EMS Assistant Manager of Communications oversees the daily operations of the EMS Department's medical communications center (Medcom). The responsibilities included but are not limited to the following.
Management of 9-1-1 and transfer center operations Function in all operational Medcom operations positions Review of all 9-1-1, and transfer center concerns Address customer services concerns Maintaining adequate staffing levels Will manage responses to OPRA and other external agency requests Will oversee all Medcom policy and annual policy reviews Will maintain the communicators orientation and training program Will liaison w/ AIT for all Medcom technology including CAD & Phone System. Will ensure that EMD review occurs Will oversee the QA/QI program, including live time QA/QI
The EMS assistant manager (Communications) is responsible for the provision of a high standard call taking and dispatch of emergency medical care resources to the citizens of Atlantic and Cape May County and surrounding areas. They are responsible for the transfer center to function at a high standard and efficiency in the intake, scheduling and dispatch of the health system transportation resources throughout the health system and the region. They will maintain consistent situation awareness of communication activities, addressing any concerns real time.
The EMS assistant manager (Communications) is a role model for the AtlantiCare mission, vision and values. They are responsible for resolving communications service issues while operating within departmental guidelines. The EMS assistant manager (Communications) is responsible for identifying ways to best utilize system resources and maximizing performance and efficiency through continual reassessment of system needs and appropriate asset deployment. The EMS assistant manager (Communications) is responsible for maintaining all certifications and licensure in accordance with established NJDOH and NJ OETS regulatory guidelines.
The EMS assistant manager (Communications) maintains staff essential work requirements and assigns annual Department /Role specific competencies. The EMS assistant manager (Communications) is responsible for providing new hire orientation, communicating performance expectations, and providing feedback to staff on a consistent basis. They review the orientation process annually in accordance with best practice and revise when appropriate.
The EMS assistant manager (Communications) is a liaison between all EMS Department personnel and all non ARMC agencies and external partners, collaborating to ensure cohesive operations for mutual benefit and of the community.
The EMS assistant Manager (communications) may provide leadership on designated Shared Governance Teams of the Health care system. All EMS Assistant Managers will collaborate to ensure smooth operations at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's in EMS, Business or Public Administration or related field degree required or enrollment in accredited bachelor's program within the first six (6) months.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current BLSHCP required. Completion of the National Incident Command Courses, ICS 100, 200, 300, 700 and 800 required. Valid Drivers License required. Certified as a NJ EMT, Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) and 911 Communications Officer in the state of NJ required or its equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: 5-10 years work experience as an EMD required. 3-5 years supervisory experience preferred. Effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills required. Knowledge of all aspects of emergency policies and procedures and clinical applications required. Strong Leadership qualities required.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, blood borne pathogens, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping and crouching a majority of the workday. This position requires pushing and pulling equipment up to 50 pounds and lifting up to 200 pounds with assistance.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The EMS Assistant Manager of communications will report directly to the Assistant Chief as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Emergency Medical Services.
