Overview
Promotes the mission of OHSU Finance & Accounting through our Professional Standards of Customer Service, Reliability, Productivity, Professionalism, Accuracy, Timeliness, and Problem-Solving. Directs the accounting offices within OHSU Central Finance, including General Ledger, Capital/Lease Accounting, and other fully or partially owned affiliate entities (OHSU Project Co., LLC, InsCo, etc.) Establishes and oversees the monthly OHSU financial close process, directs all financial transaction processing, reconciliations, data analysis and reporting. Creates and reviews OHSU's financial statements for completeness, accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. Ensures monthly closing of Oracle modules, including General Ledger, Project Accounting and Fixed Assets and oversight of functional leads of General Ledger, Project Accounting, Property Manager (leases), Fixed Assets and Cash Management applications. Oversees the reconciliation of accounts, the analysis and tracking of balance sheet accruals, receivables, etc. and non- departmental (institutional) budget to actual revenues and expenses. Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs OHSU's external audits and reviews by internal and external auditors. Collaborates with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance. Directs the preparation of financial information for federal, state and other external surveys, internal program financial statements, and any other requests for financial information. Makes recommendations to VP of Finance & Accounting and SVP, Chief Accounting Officer regarding accounting and financial results of OHSU and related entities. Supervises, recruits and retains staff by completing employee GROW conversations which includes development of short- and long-range goals and objectives, setting priorities and maintaining staff development. Managing staff to include providing direction and support, reviewing work in progress, and ensuring that work is completed within scheduled time frames. This may include coordination with Legal, Internal Audit, Budget, Treasury and Executives to ensure requirements are fully met. Actively studies regulations and guidance on statutory accounting practices advising OHSU's VP of Finance & Accounting and SVP, Chief Accounting Officer on correct application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Oversees the development of and maintenance of OHSU's accounting policies and procedures. Makes recommendations for changes and implements as needed, ensures policies and procedures are followed and establishes the proper techniques to discover and prevent fraud. Develops complex financial reporting, interprets and develops complex accounting processes/system solutions, interprets and implements complex reporting or accounting requirements for OHSU and affiliated organizations. Responsible for developing and preparing monthly financial reports on the activity at OHSU within established timelines and researching budget and trended variances within the financial information, providing written explanations for those variances and suggest solutions and adjustments when necessary. Responsible for monthly capital spending variance reporting for senior management financial reports. Responsible for reporting on the OHSU Capital Plan and the preparation of OHSU Capital Plan in conjunction with Capital Budgeting. Provides OHSU estimated depreciation schedules to CFO and Budgeting. Also assists with the budgeting of InsCo/Risk and Central departmental budgeting.
Responsibilities
Education: Bachelor Degree in Accounting required. Experience: Minimum of five years relevant accounting experience is required (at least two in a supervisory or leadership capacity). Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies): Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Excellent computer skills; proficiency with accounting and reporting software (Oracle/IBM Cognos); experience with a software system implementation a plus Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong leadership, analytical, quantitative and creative problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and to exercise sound judgment. Ability to be detail-oriented including accuracy with numbers and data entry. Education: Master's degree in accounting or finance. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. Experience: Previous experience as an accountant, accounting supervisor, or manager Prior experience in an Academic and/or Healthcare organization.
