POSITION SUMMARY

The Biomedical Specialist position provides service of patient related medical equipment in accordance to established departmental policies and procedures by performing a variety of routine tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of a broad range of medical equipment with minimal guidance from an experienced technician or supervisor. In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining timely and accurate equipment maintenance records for all patient related medical equipment, including dates of repair, service, and safety inspections.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Associate's Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology / Electronics, military training, or related field required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid driver's license. Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AMI) or International Certification Commission (ICC), Certification preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 1 year minimum of servicing a broad representation of electronic equipment required (preferably in a hospital type environment). This position requires incumbents within this job class, to be included in rotational On-Call for Biomedical Services.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Perform repairs, preventative maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and calibration services on a broad range of patient care and selected support equipment in compliance with established standards. Operates basic test equipment, such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, safety analyzers, ESU analyzers, defibrillator analyzers, and physiological simulators as well as hand tools. Participates in organized education and training activities to upgrade job knowledge and job performance. Provide informal training to equipment users and the department staff as requested or when circumstances dictate. Performs Biomedical On-Call responsibilities according to established policies and procedures. Interacts in a professional manner with all clinical staff, patients, and co-workers. Must be able to take direction from both direct and indirect supervisory positions. Respond expeditiously to service requests to evaluate and rectify complaints and concerns. Research and initiate orders for repair and PM parts as needed. Maintain an orderly and functional work environment. Good communication (both oral and written) and strong customer service skills. Strong work ethic and ability to work as a member of a team. Document all asset related actions in compliance with department practices. Collaborate with fellow technical personnel in department meetings. Participates in projects as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Adheres to AtlantiCare and Biomedical Policies and Procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires extensive walking and carrying up to 40 pounds on a regular basis. Requires sitting at a bench for repairs for long periods of time. Must be able to access and work in confined spaces as needed. Essential functions of this position are listed on the department specific Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

This position reports directly to department leadership.
