Overview

Technical Review and Responsibilities
Histocompatibility Technical knowledge of test result interpretation and reporting.Reviews, investigates and completes UNOS HLA typing discrepancy reports.Assists with OPTN security evaluations.Communicates with transplant program personnel regarding new procedures or policiesNotify the departmental leaders of any technical issues concerning the lab, assess the issues and make recommendations.Review test results to ensure accuracy.Generate reports for transplant recipients (solid organ case, crossmatches, verification typing) and donors.Monitor tests TAT and STAT requests.Provides supervision for the lab when manager and technical director are absent.
Transplant Waitlist Data Management
Waitlist AdditionsUpdate waitlist addition worksheets for all centers/organ typesWeekly QC of waitlist in UNET vs HistoTracMake corrections as necessary to WL errorsCommunicate with the transplant coordinators when a discrepancy is discovered that is not a clerical errorComplete data entry of post-transplant recipients and donors in UNET Tiedi ModulesSupport the transition and implementation of the Tiedi manual data entry of post-transplant recipient and donor data to the HistoTrac supported module
Quality Control Monitoring and Review
Assists manager and director in managing Quality Program. Assists in developing quality assurance and performance improvement activities and guidelines; monitors quality assurance indicators and consults with manager when indicators fall outside of acceptable limits. Provides support for the manager to ensure high quality and efficiency in LIT. Ensures that correct policies and procedures are followed. Monitors quality of work performed in LIT by all employees for conformance to standards. Is familiar with ASHI, CLIA and OPTN regulatory requirements and assists manager with development and maintenance of systems designed to comply with regulations. Helps to prepare for inspections and assessments. Reviews competency results with lab manager and suggests further action if inadequate performance is detected. Assists with retraining and corrective measures as needed. Reviews proficiency exercises and takes corrective action. Maintains audit trail of all proficiency-testing activities. Monitors quality control results, logs and activities on a day-to-day basis and ensures that appropriate action is taken when results are out of control. Alerts manager to QC situations that cannot be readily corrected and consults with manager regarding further action. Assists with error, accident and incident tracking, trending and management.

Responsibilities

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, or other science ANDFour years of experience in a clinical laboratory performing a variety of standard testing and examination procedures with increasing responsibilities and involvement in complex projects. Certification as MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), M(ASCP), MB(ASCP), C(ASCP), CT(ASCP), H(ASCP), HTL(ASCP), CG(ASCP), or CHT(ABHI). Certification required may be specific to department the job class resides in, as indicated by the position description. Certification must be maintained, and depending on date of training, different continuing education requirements will apply.
Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Competencies):
General knowledge of Federal regulations and inspection agency standards governing Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics General knowledge of Federal regulations and inspection agency standards governing traditional Clinical Pathology tests.General knowledge of theory, interpretation and application of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics testing. General knowledge of general laboratory terminology, techniques, principles, and procedure. General knowledge of the operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment. General knowledge of, and personal skill in application of, information management and personal computer applications. General knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, immunology, immunogenetics and microbiology. Effective communication skills.
Qualifications

BS in Medical Laboratory Science or Masters/PhD in Molecular BiologyCHT(ABHI) or CHS(ABHI)Experience as a Histocompatibility Technologist
