Overview

Program Directorship/Leadership:

This position directs operations, including staffing, financial, and IT, for the undergraduate medical education (UME) program within the School of Medicine (SoM). Oversight of staffing includes the following units: Administration; Admissions; Assessments; OASIS; and Teaching Services. The position is responsible for providing leadership, mentorship, stability, consistency, vision, strategic planning, and innovation to lead the advancement of the UME program throughout the educational continuum from outreach through graduation from the MD program. Ensures consistent communication and messaging of administrative policies and procedures. Directs efforts for continuous quality improvement within program operations.

Strategic Planning and Implementation:

Works in partnership with the associate dean for UME, senior associate dean for education, Provost's Office, assistant dean's for student affairs, assistant dean for admissions, and OASIS faculty advisors, on special projects and initiatives, at the program, school, and university level. Includes representation of the UME program on university and school initiatives, resource allocation for compliance with medical student accommodations, and oversight of capital expenditure projects to meet medical student and other UME program-related needs.

Fiscal Directorship/Leadership:

Provides fiscal leadership and oversight as the fiscal authority approver for all UME-related transactions. Oversees UME operating expense budgets and works in close collaboration with finance personnel, Dean's Office leadership, UME unit leaders, student leaders and student interest groups to ensure strong fiscal scrutiny and financial stewardship are in place within the program.

Critical Analysis and Technical Expertise:

Directs IT resources at the program level. Works in close partnership with the SoM IT group to advance technology within UME operations including development towards a unified operational tracking system and Cognos reporting. Oversees the design and implementation of custom databases within UME and translates complex processes in development of software applications designed to maximize workflow efficiencies, track applicant and student progression, and report outcomes.Directs the process for producing statistical analyses and generating data for university, school, and program leadership for purposes of accreditation, strategic planning, tuition forecasting, and public relations. Requires ongoing review of data warehouse capabilities and creating queries to produce statistics.

Advising, Outreach, and Recruitment:

Directs UME outreach efforts to support university and school initiatives. This includes directing outreach and recruitment efforts to all prospective applicants including value add populations for enhancement of a diverse student body. Oversees administration of these programs and assessing outcomes.

This position serves as a leader for advancing diversity initiatives through partnerships with the associate dean for DEI and Belonging, SoM Dean's Office, the OHSU Center for Learner Diversity and Inclusion, the Science Education Opportunities Office, and other academic programs within the university, as well as external entities.Provides PR role in public forums presenting on UME curriculum and admissions to universities/colleges, premedical societies, premedical advisors, applicants, and community organizations.

Responsibilities

Bachelors Degree

Minimum of ten years of full leadership managing professional staff in higher education environment.

Minimum of five year of experience managing financial and administrative operations within a higher education environment.

Minimum of five years of demonstrated experience with public speaking.

Minimum of five years of demonstrated experience with conflict resolution.

Qualifications

Masters Degree or equivalent work experienceMinimum of ten years of full leadership managing professional staff in a medical school environment.Knowledge of WICHE PSEP rules and regulations.
Institutional knowledge of OHSU to effectively lead in strategic planning and critical analysis of undergraduate medical education
Demonstrated experience designing medical school tracking databases
