The Optometrist is responsible for the following:
• Provides comprehensive care in the field of Optometry to patients served at PCHC in accordance with the policies and procedures and philosophy of PCHC
• All duties/responsibilities are performed across the lifecycle (children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric), as applicable
• Provides basic primary vision care to PCHC patients
• Examines patients' eyes to diagnose vision problems and eye diseases, and tests patients' visual acuity, depth and color perception, and ability to focus and coordinate the eyes
• Prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses and provides low-vision rehabilitation when appropriate
• Analyzes test results and develops a treatment plan
• In strict accordance with state law and professional standards, administers drugs to patients to aid in the diagnosis of vision problems and prescribes drugs to treat some eye diseases
• Assists in the diagnosis of conditions caused by systemic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, referring patients to other health practitioners, as needed
• Refers to Ophthalmologist, as needed, to assure high quality of care
• Practices in accordance with state law, statutes and professional standards
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Doctor of Optometry degree from four (4) year school of OptometryCurrent RI licensure as an Optometrist with prescriptive privileges, requiredBilingual and bicultural skills preferredKnowledge of EHR requiredComputer skills required
